Shenanigans?

As long as it's been dealt with in an honorable and reasonable manner, then there's no reason to reveal things. I just hope this isn't anything that is causing cracks in our little niche of a niche. It's too small for that sort of thing. :?

Aw man, I hate it when gossip is hinted at and never revealed! Surely there is no such thing as bad publicity! :D

Yeah, he emailed me back but didn't tell me anything more than he said here. :D

Although, playing Sherlock Holmes, it's clear that BHP actually was one of the two publishers mentioned as being the target of whatever this was. BTW, I saw a really fun play this weekend with the family, called "Sherlock Holmes and the Crucifer of Blood."

Well, politics and in-fighting rears its ugly head. *sigh* I'm just going to keep on fighting on and doing my thing.

On one hand, I agree with this. On the other, I believe if a business person engages in disreputable, questionable, or unethical tactics in the course of their business proceedings, customers ought to be able to make an informed decision as to whether or not they wish to continue supporting that person. I'd be a little upset if I were paying money to someone who was using that as justification to undercut, undermine, and strongarm his business competitors. Someone who wants secrecy and won't defend their position in public is someone who probably ought to be brought out into the light.

I'm with Nellisir on this, personally. I'd rather know what went down so I can decide who I'm comfortable supporting with my (admittedly limited) dollars. Drama is, of course, annoying and saddening, but I think the truth ought to be out there in full daylight.

Of course, I'm also the kind of guy who rips a bandage right off rather than pull it back slowly. "If there's going to be pain, then let's get it over with as fast as possible" has always been my motto.

Well, there are two sides to it. I'd like to know what the rumor is, but rumors aren't reliable truth. That's why I wanted to ask Coleston specifically.

I've still barely recovered, mentally, from the unbelievably intense and nasty flamewars surrounding the release of OSRIC a couple of years ago. Both sides went into totalerkrieg mode, with rumors flying (and being tailored to various purposes), and I quickly gained knowledge of what it's like to have people spreading rumors about me by email and PM in a whisper campaign.

Clearly, some people (it seems mainly people in the blogger network) are aware of something that happened. Whether the rumors are accurate in every detail - by their very nature, rumors usually aren't correct any more after a couple of repetitions.

So ... I want to hear the rumor just out of human curiosity. :D BUT...

I'd like to hear the story from the horse's mouth out of a more serious reason - having been involved in the wars over OSRIC, I want to know who's doing what as a matter of routine reconnaissance. The pieces are still being placed on the board in terms of reaching beyond into the mainstream. Dan and I are both making plans, and so are others like Kenzer, Goodman (see the BB deal with grodog and Tacojohn), and others. These plans aren't being coordinated (which I suppose is competition, in a sense), so it's important to know if someone is strong-arming. Especially if it's one of the peripheral (ie not traditional OSR) players like Goodman, Kenzer, etc.

I've heard from him recently and he says he's come out better and stronger. Thank goodness.
