Opinions: d20 3rd ed.

House rules and any other discussion of the Core Rules (if it's about S&W in general, it can go in General Discussion, though)

I used to like ascending AC a lot, then someone on these boards pointed out that determining if a hit was scored is (roughly) the same as the D20 formula.

Roll 1d20.
Add/subtract any bonuses/penalties due to your abilities and other modifiers
Add the AC of your target opponent

If the result is equal to or greater than your THAC0, it's a hit.

Now I use descending AC without complaint and convert far less because of it.

I'm still torn where it concerns saves. Fortitude, Reflex, and Will are very simple, encompassing, and fit well onto characters sheets I design. Though I think a certain amount of "flavor" is lost when compared to things like "Dragon Breath."

--

If I play D20 anymore, I'm actually just playing Microlite 20--which, barring a few minor aspects, I find very OD&D.

As many have said:

Ascending AC.
No demi-human level limits (the STUPIDEST rule to ever be in an rpg ruleset).

That's about it. But both of them are pretty much required in any game that I'm going to play for any length of time.

I play with demi-human level limits. You know what you're getting into as a player. Deal ;)

We play with a soft cap for level limits, with the level determined by the Prime Requisite of the character's class.

Re:Nessir's posts: in reconsideration, it's no longer worth my time.

My previous postings regarding the evidence for the Rolemastering of D&D, and my opinion against attempting to move in that direction again, stand. In another thread, I also admonish against those attempting to recreate AD&D. If that touches a nerve, then so be it.

No, they're a positive thing as far as I'm concerned.

I'm for power limits, but not so much for level limits. Without some trivial "bonus" levels to achieve, players might as well throw their demihuman characters away.

I think demihumans should be able to gain a hit point or two every bonus level, if nothing else. Also, if they get level-drained, it would seem fair to have some of those bonus levels to absorb the damage.
