Everyone has been human, so far, but here's some info on this campaign's spin on elves, dwarves, and hobbits:

DWARFS

Dwarfs are human offspring who are born different or marked by the touch of the Fey. Many human societies consider the birth of such children to be very good luck; they are given to the dwarfs, to be raised in isolated dwarfin communities in the wild. Little is known about dwarfin society, but dwarfs are believed to be associated with the Fey Lands, and possess great (possibly magical) skill in smithcraft and construction. They are also believed to possess second sight, and are sometimes sought out as prophets.

CHANGELINGS (in place of Elves)

Changelings are Fey beings that are raised by humans, in human society. As children, they typically appear perfectly normal, although they may be very ugly or very beautiful (but rarely plain). A changeling is sometimes adopted by humans (who may or may not be aware of its true nature), or is sometimes left in place of a stolen human infant. As changelings grow older, their alien, dual nature becomes more and more apparent. Their appearance sometimes stays roughly the same, but often evidence of their fey blood becomes apparent at adolescence. Changelings possess two distinct natures, complete with different personalities and possibly even alignments, and can switch between these natures as they will (although not instantly).

HALFLINGS

Legendary beings with Fey-like physical characteristics but distinctly human-like personality and society. Most sages agree they do not exist, but a few stories about the land of the halflings persist.

THE FEY LANDS

The Fey Lands are said to exist in, with, and under normal reality, but no one knows exactly how this can be. The Fey are mysterious and often dangerous, even when they are not actively hostile. Faeries of all sorts, noble fey, gnomes, goblin-kind, and troll-kind are all fey kindred to one degree or another.

Boris' Journal - first fragment

Postby Grim » Thu Feb 26, 2009 9:07 pm

... part of the first page is missing ...

hing should become of me, in hopes that whoever may come to possess it might notify my brother Sabor and see to the proper interment of my body.

It was three days ago when I came to this town after hearing of the Dolmen topped hill that had risen in the fields here. I have come to fear that great evil is behind it because of some clues I have found there. The appearance of that place is no doubt a test of my faith, considering what horrors I have seen there. I have relayed my fears to the local abbot but he is reluctant to help me without proof.

Despite my great anxiety and apprehension about the act, I have entered there a second time accompanied by the stranger, Wethimyr. I am not sure yet if I fully trust him but I dare not enter there alone, it is too dangerous. He seems obsessed with gold, just like the abbott here and I am afraid thier greed clouds their judgement though I do not fear them.

I have not taken my mind off this strange place since setting foot there. The strange colors that dance in the mists surrounding the foot of the hill. The stranger stones that crown it. I am certain some enchantment holds sway over all of it and I am more certain that the power required for such thing is being provided by whatever dark rituals are being enacted the secret chambers therein.

The abbott has promised me help if I can bring back evidence of the darkness I predict lurks there yet it has been difficult to procure.
We managed to take some prisoners there but they screamed and gasped for air when we tried to remove them from the place. In one of the chambers is a statue that I think must depict the snake god they worship. Wethimyr provoked it somehow when investigating it and I saw his flesh begin to turn green like the snake-men who attacked us near there.

The magician also spoke of fey beings, who I have not yet seen. Their seem to be several groups of beings who live within the complex. The snake-men - frightening and aggressive beasts they are! There are also men like us, though we cannot understand their speech. They worship a giant frog, the carcass of which I have seen. Never could you imagine such a foul and festering thing. I shudder to imagine what other horrors stalk those shadowy passages.

Much of the place seems to be dedicated to the rites and worship of the Other-Men. They favor feathered garb and one of their gods is a feathered serpent. They have slaves that look somewhat like the children of men yet they are covered in dark hair and have vicious fangs, their screeching and wailing is fearful to behold. I was secretly pleased to see one of the hirsute beasts burned alive by our hands. I am without doubt that they are an abomination.

Boris' Journal - Second Fragment

Postby Grim » Fri Feb 27, 2009 9:48 pm

This fragment was found near Cromlech-Tor, six days after it first appeared.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The dolmen intrigues me the most. I am not certain it is evil, but it is somehow connected to the people who dwell at the bottom of those misty stairs. There is certainly a necromancer amongst thier ranks, twice we have fought against zombies raised to challenge us from the ranks of those we slew the day before. The Elder God smiled on me the first time we encouncountered them and they were repelled by the symbol of Infinity that I wear at my neck always in his honor. The snake men zombies however, where not repulsed and luckily i distracted them for a moment with some blessed water upon the ground and we were able to force them onto a pit trap that we knew had reset nearby.
I hope that their creator lacks the power to raise that great frog which was slain there, I am loathe to imagine such a horrible thing.

The magician Wethimyr continues to intrigue me. He was able to communicate with some men we tried to take prison and managed to convince them he was the representative of the dragon statue! Somehow they were convinced to give us a sack of coins as some kind of offering to us. The quick thinking mage even managed to snatch a scroll from one of their captains before he could assail us with the fell words inscribed there.

Soon it will be morning. I have continued to pray for the Elder Gods blessing but he continues to test me. Perhaps I will be able to find some proof tomorrow when we return to The Hill again.

(On the back of the fragment is a crude drawing )

You know, I'm dense -- I just now caught what you were getting at. You're right. I guess it it's an ironic epithet. 8-)
